ACHIEVEMENTS IN RESPECT OF MODEL JAIL, CHANDIGARH

UP TO 28th FEBRUARY, 2018 

STARTING OF ANGANWARI FOOD PROJECT

Anganwari Food Project was started on 1st April, 2017 with the esteemed efforts of W/ Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh. At present, we are supplying food to the 100 Anganwari Centres in the Chandigarh. A shed for cooking purpose has been constructed adjoining to the Kitchen Barrack where Anganwari Food is being cooked.

SECURITY

18 Nos. of Wireless Sets were purchased. New CCTV Cameras were installed and QRT was introduced to meet with the emergency. Gate No. 3 was constructed to make the security arrangements fool proof, keeping in mind the recent Nabha Jail Break case. Drone Surveillance introduced and Mock Drill was conducted twice. The Standard Operating Procedure to meet with the emergency was prepared first time. The file for the purchase of 2 nos. of Security Poles has also been processed as per the directions of W/ Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh.

SUPPLYING FOOD IN THE POLICE RECRUITMENT, SECTOR-26,

The Jail Department supplied food to the Police Department during the Golf Club D.G Police Meet. The Jail Department has also started supplying food to the Police Recruitment Centres, Sector-26, Chandigarh. 400 Thalis daily are supplied from the jail. Other eatables/ sweets like Balushahi, Petha, Shakarpara, Namkeen, Samosa, Matar, Mathi etc. are prepared in the jail kitchen and supplied to the jail canteens and other departments on orders.

FEMALE WARD

Separate Kitchen for female inmates was started. The female inmates are now cooking their food at own. Other projects like leaflet making, stitching, beauty culture was also started with the directions of W/ Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh.

VOCATIONAL COURSES

Computer Course for the jail inmates was started in the Model Jail, Chandigarh with the help of MCC, Chandigarh.

CULTURAL PROGRAMME BY THE INMATES

A cultural programme was organized in the Model Jail, Chandigarh whereby the inmates took part. The inmates performed drama, Nukad Natak and sung songs. The amateur artist also took part in the musical evening. His Excellency the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on this occasion.

INAUGURATION OF GYM

Gym has been set up in the jail for the inmates of the jail. New equipments have been purchased and installed in the Gym. The Gym was inaugurated by Excellency the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh on 06.06.2017.

TREE PLANTATION

Seasonal plants, Fruit Trees and Ornamental Plants were planted in the Model Jail, Chandigarh. His Excellency the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh planted tree on 06.06.2017. The Adviser to the Administrator UT, Chandigarh, Home Secretary, Chandigarh Administration, Sh. Tajender Singh Luthra, IPS, DGP and Sh. Alok Kumar, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons, also planted trees.

INAUGURATION OF ANGANWARI RASOI

Anganwari Rasoi was inaugurated on 06.06.2017 by His Excellency the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh.

PLACEMENT CUM REHABILITATION PROGRAM

Placement camp was organised at Community Centre of Modal Jail, Chandigarh on dated: 28.06.2017. Inmates released during last 6 months were called to attend the camp for job opportunity. Companies / Entrepreneurs from divercified sectors, including some ex-inmates participated in the camp to provide placement to ex-inmates.

Health Screening Camp

Chandigarh Health Department in collaboration with Model Jail (Department of Prisons and Correctional Administration) UT, Chandigarh has flagged off  three days Health Cum Screening under National Health Mission Camp for Jail Bandhus at Model Jail, UT, Chandigarh from 17th to 19th January, 2018. The camp was inaugurated by Dr. O.P. Mishra, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh. Specialists from Health Department i.e. from Department of Medicine, Surgery, Gynae, ENT, EYE, Psychiatry, AYUSH and Dental examined all jail bandhus above the age of 30 years. Non Communicable Disease (NCD) risk profiling i.e. for Hypertension, Diabetes & Obesity for all jail bandhus above the age of 30 years conducted along with Oral Cancer screening. All female inmates above the age of 30 years also screened for Breast and Cervical Cancer. Health Promotional Sessions to generate awareness regarding adoption of healthy life style and to lead stress free life were emphasized. Diet Counseling regarding healthy diet was also provided during the Health Camp.

Food Fortification Programme

His Excellency, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore visited the Model Jail, Chandigarh for the inauguration of Rice Fortification Machine in the Anganwari Rasoi. Sh. Tejinder Singh Luthra, IPS Director General of Police UT, Chandigarh, Dr. O. P Mishra, IPS Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh, Mrs. Samita Mankad, Principal Lead, Department of Food Safety and Standards, Delhi, Sh. K.K. Jindal, Secretary Personnel, Sh. B.L. Sharma, Secretary Social Welfare Department, Sh. Satish Kumar Jain, HCS, Addl. IG. Prisons UT, Chandigarh, Ms. Nishu Singhal, Director Social Welfare Department, Chandigarh and other officers were present on this occasion.

Release of Coffee Table Book

The Coffee Table Book of the Department of Prisons was launched by His Excellency, the Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT, Chandigarh Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore. Sh. Parimal Rai, IAS, Adviser to Administrator, Sh. K.K. Jindal, IAS, Secretary Personnel,  Sh. Tejinder Singh Luthra, IPS, Director General of Police UT, Chandigarh, Dr. O. P Mishra, IPS, Inspector General of Prisons, UT, Chandigarh accompanined him on the dias. 

AIDs and Tuberculosis Awareness Camp

AIDs & Tuberculosis Awareness Camp was held in the Model Jail, Chandigarh by the State AIDs Control Society, UT, Chandigarh on 06.02.2018. The inmates as well as staff of the jail were educated on prevention of HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB). Information was disseminted by Audio-video, lectures, open discussion, folk performance and play.

Creche Food

Supply to 50 crèches has been started by Prisons Department. His Excellency, Sh. V.P. Singh Badnore, Governor, Punjab & Administrator, UT, Chandigarh launches the programme by flagging of the two new Food vehicles.

Prisoner Training, Rehabilitation and Welfare Society- Model Jail Vocational Institute

A Society for running commercial activity has been floated with name Prisoner Traning, Rehabilitation and Welfare Society (Model Jail, Vocational Institute). Society is registered with Registrar of Society, UT Chandigarh.
